FAQ for Wellness Travellers

Is it a good idea to bring children on Safari?

Typically, lodges have age restrictions for certain activities, while other lodges don't allow children under a certain age (especially if they are unfenced). However most of the lodges we have partnered with do cater to children, and since the majority of our lodges are exclusive-use, they allow children since there are no other guests around, or joining your private game drives. Exclusive-use safaris are the perfect family-friendly vacation.

What is an exclusive-use safari?

As opposed to sharing common spaces, meals, and game drives with all other guests at your lodge, an exclusive-use safari means that you and your family have complete privacy and sole-use of your lodging. Private meals and game drive vehicles are an integral part of the exclusive-use experience. Non exclusive-use safaris have set schedules for meals and game drives without the flexibility that exclusive-use provides.

What is the best time to go on a safari in South Africa?

South Africa is a year-round destination. The best time for a South African safari depends on the region and your preferences. Generally, for Greater Kruger Park, the dry winter months (May to September) are ideal for game viewing, as animals gather around water sources. However, the summer months (November to March) offer lush landscapes, birdwatching, and baby animal sightings.

What's the weather like on safari?

The majority of "safari Africa" falls within tropical or sub-tropical zones, enjoying a warm, arid climate with minimal humidity. This relative dryness is a key factor behind the presence of savanna in these regions, rather than the rainforests more commonly associated with tropical areas. Seasons are opposite to those in the northern hemisphere, with spring and summer occurring from September to February, and autumn and winter from March to August.

Southern Africa
In the safari regions of Southern Africa, there is a single rainy season that begins in mid to late November and extends through early March. Even during this period, prolonged heavy rain is uncommon; precipitation usually comes in the form of brief afternoon thunderstorms that rarely disrupt safari activities. Safari lodges and camps in most areas remain operational throughout the year. Broadly speaking, the year can be divided into three distinct safari seasons:

Cool, dry season (March to August) – Days are generally warm (70s to low 80s Fahrenheit), while nights can be chilly (40s to 50s). Occasional thunderstorms may linger into March and April, followed by an almost total absence of rainfall. As the dry season advances, wildlife becomes increasingly concentrated.

Warm, dry season (September to November) – Daytime highs typically rise into the 90s, with cooler nights ranging from the 60s to 70s. Humidity remains low, and animals gather around the dwindling water sources. Isolated thunderstorms may begin in late October, but consistent rains usually don’t arrive until December.

Green season (December to February) – Increased cloud cover reduces daytime temperatures to the upper 80s, while overnight lows remain in the low 70s. Regular afternoon thunderstorms occur, bringing vibrant greenery to the savanna. During this time, plains game give birth, and migratory birds return.

Cape Town stands out with its unique rainfall pattern, which doesn’t align with the rest of the region. Its rains typically start in April and continue through September.

What is the cost of a luxury wellness safari?

The cost of your safari will depend on a number of factors, primarily the number of nights stayed and individuals in your party, however below are additional factors to consider:

- Level of luxury accommodation (luxury tent/lodge/villa - and which reserve it is within)
- Additional activities selected (wellness and/or conservation)
- Method of transfers (shuttle, flight, private charter)
- Time of year (high vs low season)
- Beach package additions

*Certain lodges charge separately for drinks ,including fine wines.

Do I need Malaria pills to travel to Africa?

The Kruger Park safari region where most of our partner lodges are, is in a malaria area, and we advise all guests to consult with their own healthcare professional whether or not they should take anti-malaria pills for their trip. Safaris in the Eastern Cape, Welgevonden, and Madikwe are not in a Malaria area.

Is it safe to go on safari?

Yes, safety is our top priority. We work with experienced guides and luxury lodges that are trained professionals who prioritize your safety. Follow the guidelines provided by lodges and guides. From a crime perspective, most of our itineraries avoid busy cities preferring scenic, tranquil lodges and hotels which are in secure areas.

Do you help with flight booking?

We partner with an excellent travel agency who handle our client's international flights, while we take care of domestic flights and private charters between lodges.
